What lurks beneath the covers of this box? Once it holds them in its icy embrace, it may never let them go. It is a demiplane of dread and desire, a world whose misty fingers can reach into any other campaign setting and draw unsuspecting heroes into its midst. Ravenloft is a new realm of terror for AD&D adventures, rooted in the Gothic tradition. The traveler discovers what others have learned before him: all roads lead to Ravenloft. A flash of fang, a bloodcurdling howl, red eyes fueled by a passion from beyond the grave. Is it Death who follows? The man turns, and so turns the phantom. Footsteps echo behind him, in pace with his beating heart. You can also shroud yourself in deathly power, giving you a battle transformation that makes your attacks cause fear.In the dead of night, as mists cloak the land, a traveler walks a country road. The College of Spirits is basically the occult medium subclass, which allows spirits to speak their magical stories through you creating variable effects that can give your allies powerful abilities or hamper your foes.Īnd the Undead warlock patron grants you powerful necromantic abilities like speak with dead, antilife shell, and so on. It makes enough of a difference that one wonders if the other classes might see a rebalance in comparison. Which mostly means that they offer improved flexibility compared to other subclasses, and their abilities will tend to be usable a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus. As a reminder, both of these run on the post-Tasha’s Cauldron design principles. As well we’ll probably see the College of Spirit Bard and the Undead patron for Warlocks. If you enjoyed the Dhampir, Hexblood, or Reborn, you’ll find the full, finalized rules for these in the book. What an exciting reveal–now we know that those Gothic Lineages have a home.
No one knows this better than monster scholar Rudolph Van Richten. Terror stalks the nightmare realms of Ravenloft.
